Modern physicist S. Hawking
described Blavatsky’s era: ...
nearly everyone in the
18th and 19th centuries believed that the
Universe was
essentially unchanging in time. ... one could equally well believe that
it had
existed for ever or that it had been created in its present form a
finite time ago. (1984)
Whereas
scientific opinion of her day may have been so narrow in scope,
Blavatsky
provided a profoundly alternative vision of the nature of
reality—grander in
scope, complexity and subtleness than even the most advanced ideas in
modern
theoretical physics. In contrast to other people and scientists of her
day, H.
P. Blavatsky propound a view that the Universe emerged from a zero
point or
singularity condition, out of a seeming void and plenum—a seven
dimensional
hyperspace or ‘Parent Space’ with an underlying fundamental
holomovement or
‘Ceaseless Breath.’ She explains how a Kosmos grows from a point source
within-without to become a world but will eventually contract
without-within
back to a final zero point source—to return again into the sevenfold
hyperspace
of the Divine Mother. Blavatsky, in the
19th century, regarded our Kosmos as simply one such “wink
in the
Eye of Self-Existence” emerging from and dissolving back through
zero point
centres rooted into an underlying Ceaseless Breath within an Eternal
Parent
Space!
The second fundamental proposition of The Secret
Doctrine, affirmed: The Eternity of the Universe
in toto as a boundless plane; periodically “the
playground of numberless
Universes incessantly manifesting and disappearing,” called “the
manifesting
stars,” and the “sparks of Eternity.”
The Eternity of the Pilgrim is like a wink in the Eye of
Self-Existence. (p. 16) In
modern terms, the Eternal Parent Space of Blavatsky is the
seven-dimensional
hyperspace of the quantum vacuum—the
quantum ether and zero point fields postulated within
the most advanced
models of physics (including Superstring and M-theory—the supposed
‘Mother’ of
all theories). A modern physicist
declares: “All of physics is in the vacuum” and this is exactly
the
viewpoint elaborated by Blavatsky.
Blavatsky’s explanations of the causes of the laws
of nature are
based upon an understanding of a seven dimensional hyperspace, the
nature of
Space as void and plenum, zero point centres within an underlying
Electromagnetic Ocean, and the manner in which higher dimensional
intelligences
manifest within-without out of higher dimensional Space!
Many of these ideas have now emerged within
science itself, as will be demonstrated through these comparative
studies. No
one in her era could have understood the full implications and
applications of
the wild claims and ideas Blavatsky presented to the world in The Secret Doctrine. However,
the most profound 21st
century physics, to distinguish it from twentieth century science
dominated by
Einstein and Heisenberg, is focused on exploring a deeper more
fundamental
substratum—as addressed by H.P.B. Scientists now explore the nature of
nothingness, the basic enigmas of the quantum vacuum, the nature of
higher
dimensional Space at zero point levels, and the holographic principle
in
physics. These contemporary theories
address the same issues explored within The Secret Doctrine a
century
earlier. Of
course, to understand and grasp it all, and how it could be so, and
what it all
means, is no easy task for the faint hearted.
However, The Secret Doctrine deserves to be
re-interpreted in the
light of the newest physics and models of creation.
It provided a basic holographic model of the
Universe—a century before physicists arrived at such views. Blavatsky’s Secret Doctrine has yet to
be
understood by modern science and it provides a profoundly alternative
interpretation of the facts and theories of science itself.

The Seven Stanzas of
Dzyan are replicated as an appendix to the text of God, Science
&
The Secret Doctrine. The Stanzas are reproduced from the standard
modern
Theosophical University Press edition of The Secret Doctrine,
itself “verbatim
with the original edition.” (1888, 1970)
The Book
of Dzyan is
an ancient poetic text of Tibetan origin, which apart from Blavatsky’s
writings
seems unknown to modern scholarship. [1]
At
the end of the seventh page of the Stanzas, you will find Blavatsky’s
original
comments upon them. She writes: “Thus ends this portion of
the archaic narrative, dark, confused, almost incomprehensive. An attempt will now be made to throw light
into this darkness, to make sense out of this apparent NON-SENSE.”
The Stanzas actually depict the history of cosmic
evolution—beginning before the point source origin of the
universe. The root principles of creation
are the higher
dimensional seven-skinned Eternal Parent
Space and an Eternal Ceaseless Breath. The Stanzas begin before the big bang when
the world was empty and void, and the Spirit (Breath) moves across the
face of
the Waters (of Space). The Stanzas then
depict the dynamic emergence of a cosmos, the dropping of a world egg,
the
emergence of the seven divine intelligences or Luminous Sons, and the
unfurling
of varied cosmic processes through different hierarchies of creation. These abstract causes and root principles “phenomenalise in the form of the material
Universe, by a process of conversion of metaphysics into physics,
analogous to
that by which steam can be condensed into water, and the water frozen
into
ice.” (p. 45) Blavatsky
provides a remarkable account of how
divine and spiritual intelligences within higher dimensions manifest
through
zero point dynamics to inform living beings and the laws of nature. Blavatsky states, “metaphysical
abstractions … are the only conceivable cause of physical
concretions.” (p. 45)
[2] Blavatsky’s
explanations of cosmogenesis and metaphysics are explored in Section
III of God,
Science & The Secret Doctrine with a progressive analysis
of the Stanzas. Section IV then examines
modern physics and cosmology while showing correspondences and
differences between
the two perspectives. Blavatsky’s
seemingly bizarre descriptions of metaphysical processes have
anticipated many
of the essential concepts of modern physics: vacuum genesis,
singularity
creation, 11 dimensional string theory and M-theory, quantum
information theory
and the holographic principle. Further,
they shed a wholly different light on the enigmas of the “uncertainty
principle” and the ‘baffling holism’ of quantum physics.
21st century science could arrive
at an alternate understanding of this enigmatic uncertainty principle,
as the
key to its interpretation is hidden within The Secret Doctrine
and its
teachings of the zero point centres.
Blavatsky’s perspectives on the mysteries of creation
are ever more
intelligible in light of the theories and findings of modern science. I hope that as
the reader grasps this work,
then the awesome creation poetry of the Stanzas
of Dzyan will become increasingly accessible. Whereas
a cursory reading of the Stanzas
alone might suggest “apparent NON-SENSE,”
a careful study of the key concepts and meditation upon the Stanzas can
allow
us to grasp a profound ancient wisdom teaching as to the physics and
metaphysics of creation. The
concluding portion of God, Science & The Secret Doctrine
explores
the origin and nature of human consciousness and self existence, in
light of The
Secret Doctrine and in the darkness of modern soul-less psychology. To this end, we compare the mystical ‘Heart
Doctrine’ of Blavatsky to the common ‘head doctrine’ of modern
psychology and
science. Whereas the metaphysics and
cosmology of Blavatsky are profoundly similar to 21st
century
physics, her psychology is a world apart from 20st century
psychology! Thus,
we will discuss the nature of the ‘I AM,’ the plights of the Monads,
the
individual living beings, the ‘winks in the Eye of Self-Existence.’ Blavatsky’s teachings allow us to apply a
higher dimensional quantum information theory to understanding the
Monadic
essence existent within hyperspace dimensions, which by some hidden
inner magic
become “clothed in different bodies” based upon zero point ‘laya
centres.’ Blavatsky
offers a higher dimensional model of human existence within holographic
Space,
in comparison with which 20th century psychology looks puny
and meagre
indeed. Blavatsky states: “The Mind
is the great Slayer of the Real.” Blavatsky
explains that the Stanzas of Dzyan
provide an “abstract algebraic formula of … Evolution,” which
can be
applied to “all evolution.” There
are “seven terms of this abstract formula, related to the seven
great stages
of the evolutionary process, as described in the Puranas as the “Seven
Creations,” and in the Bible as the “Days” of Creation.” Of course,
since
man, as a microcosm of the macrocosm, embodies the Universe, the same
abstract
numerical and symbolic formulas can all be applied to understanding the
zero
point dynamics underlying the creation of the Universe and the
emergence of the
Monad. Studies of the physics and
metaphysics of creation can then all be applied to understanding
ourselves and
the physics and metaphysics of our own hearts and consciousness. The
Stanzas state: “THE SONS EXPAND AND
CONTRACT THROUGH THEIR OWN SELVES AND HEARTS; THEY EMBRACE INFINITUDE.”
(III,
11)
At this point, to
present a complete version of the
Stanza might leave the reader bewildered, so we will examine aspects of
Blavatsky’s cosmological and metaphysical teachings which shed light on
these
enigmatic Stanzas and present the Stanzas in sections.
The complete version of the Stanzas is in the
Appendix and readers may want to read them before continuing with this
exposition. * * *
[1] In the
Theos-Talk Archives (October 1999), www.theosophy.com/theos-talk/
Grigor Ananikian, explained that Blavatsky’s Asian and western
Tibet/Bhutan/Kashmir contacts were with the Dzog chen order. It is suggested that the Stanzas
originate from
a “Central Asian Dzog chen root text that is used by the Kalmucks
(with whom
H.P.B. had early contact in the Caucasus) and Mongols.
Also, that the Stanzas of Dzyan are of Dzog
chen origin was stated by the Dalai Lama in 1992.”
[2] Book II of The Secret Doctrine, Anthropogenesis, provides a second set of Stanzas dealing with the evolution of life and humanity on earth, as well as within other rounds and through higher dimensions. Blavatsky criticized the evolutionary ideas of the day, noting: “neither Occultism nor Theosophy has ever supported the wild theories of the present Darwinists—least of all the descent of man from an ape.” God willing, the author will develop book two of God, Science & The Secret Doctrine to explore the issues of evolution and the origins of humankind; again contrasting science and Blavatsky’s wisdom tradition. |
