3d. Zero Point Foundations
“ ... ‘material points without extension’ (zero-points) are ...
the materials out of which the ‘Gods’and other invisible powers
clothe themselves in bodies ... .”
Madame H. P. Blavatsky, The Secret Doctrine, 1888
|
| Blavatsky labels any Cosmos as a “Son,” as
a “wink of the Eye of Self-Existence,” and as a “spark of eternity.”
Whether a Universe, a quantum or an individual spiritual spark, the laws
of nature manifest in the material worlds are due to Divine and spiritual
forces and intelligences emerging from within/without through zero point
dimensions. The Gods and other invisible forces manifest their forces
or influences through zero point sources rooted within into higher dimensional
space–the foundation for any cosmos! These forces originate
from within hidden super-sensuous dimensions of Being/Non-Being, and manifest
without in material nature. Any Cosmos, any Universe, any Monad (or
spiritual spark), any atom or quantum, is “worked and guided from within
outwards” through the dynamics of such zero point centres. This is
the reason for the title of this series–Within-Without from Zero Points. |

Seven Unmanifest Metaphysical Dimensions
Seven Manifest Physical Dimensions
|
A key to understanding these mystical doctrines
has to do with grasping the concept of these remarkable zero point centres.
Blavatsky uses various terms to depict these invisible points–labeling
them also as “layu centers” and “laya centers.”
The influences of divine or spiritual realms upon the physical realm emerge
through these laya centres. These exist beyond the level of material
differentiation.
A zero point is not exactly a ‘thing’ in itself,
so much as it is a condition, or a place at which certain processes occur.
It is not a ‘point particle’ but a whole inner world, where influences
and forces emerge from deeper levels of being into physical manifestation–as
a particle, or cosmos. Blavatsky suggested that the Universe actually
has such a point source of unfoldment–wherein the finite cosmos emerged
from the Infinite, at the beginning of time. The unextended
points, beyond the level of physical differentiation, were also described
by Blavatsky as the truer ‘atoms’ or, what we would now call the 'quanta'
of physics. In 1888, scientists had no idea of such a point source
origination of the universe, or of atoms having such an interior nature.
Blavatsky described zero point sources as the basis for the atoms, and
Cosmoses!
Blavatsky describes these invisible zero points,
and how the nominal realm acts through such points to ‘inform’ natural
phenomenon and the laws of nature:
A “neutral center” is, in one aspect, the limiting point of any given
set of senses. Thus, imagine two consecutive planes of matter as
already formed; each of these corresponding to an appropriate set of perceptive
organs. We are forced to admit that between these two planes of matter
an incessant circulation takes place; and if we follow the atoms and molecules
of (say) the lower in their transformation upwards, these will come to
a point where they pass altogether beyond the range of the faculties we
are using on the lower plane. In fact, to us the matter of the lower
plane there vanishes from our perception into nothing–or rather it passes
on to the higher plane, and the state of matter corresponding to such a
point of transition must certainly possess special and not readily discoverable
properties. (pp.147-8)
For Madame Blavatsky, at the heart of matter, or at the heart of the Cosmos,
or at the heart of the individual, is a zero point laya center–a
metaphysical foundation rooted within into the Eternal Parent Space
and the Infinity of the Absolute. The laws of nature which inform
manifest creation emerge from within/without and the physical realms are
sustained always by such metaphysical dimensions of Being/Non-Being.
Blavatsky explains that the views of the mystic
philosopher Leibnitz
represent The Secret Doctrine teaching of how a dimension-less point within
material reality might extend inwardly into the infinity of a metaphysical
realm:
... Leibnitz ... could not rest content in assuming that matter composed
of a finite number of very small parts. His mathematical mind forced
him to carry out the argument in infinitum. And what became of the
atoms then? They lost their extension and they retained only their
property of resistance; they were the centers of force. They were
reduced to mathematical points ... but if their existence in space was
nothing, so much fuller was their inner life. Assuming that inner
existence, such as that of the human mind, is a new dimension, not a geometrical
but a metaphysical dimension ... having reduced the geometrical extension
of the atoms to nothing, Leibnitz endowed them with an infinite extension
in the direction of their metaphysical dimension. After having lost
sight of them in the world of space, the mind has, as it were, to dive
into a metaphysical world to find and grasp the real essence of what appears
in space merely as a mathematical point. . . .
As a cone stands on its point, or a perpendicular straight line cuts
a horizontal plane only in one mathematical point, but may extend infinitely
in height and depth, so the essences of things real have only a punctual
existence in this physical world of space; but have an infinite depth of
inner life in the metaphysical world ... This is the spirit, the
very root of occult doctrine and thought. The “Spirit-Matter” and
“Matter-Spirit” extend infinitely in depth ... . (p. 628)

In this view, any point within the relative time/space continuum extends
inwardly into the infinity of the metaphysical realm which pervades and
sustains creation.
In order to understand this doctrine of the zero
points, we must realize that they are beyond the level of discrimination
as far as manifest creation is concerned.
The Chemist goes to the laya or zero-point of the plane of matter with
which he deals, and then stops short. ... But the full Initiate knows that
the Ring “Pass Not” is neither locality, nor can it be measured by distance,
but that is exists in the absoluteness of Infinity. In this “Infinity”
... there is neither height, breadth nor thickness, but all is fathomless
profundity, reaching down from the physical to the para-metaphysical. (p.
156)
The creation and dissolution of any
Universe, whether a cosmos, a spiritual spark, or a quantum are out of,
and back into, zero points. Creation, or the descent of spirit into
matter, involves the emergence from a zero points. Further, the forces
of nature are due to activities occurring within/without through the inner
dynamics of zero points. In physics, these concepts anticipate
modern ideas of the rolled up, compacted dimensions existing at every point
in the four large dimensions, and serving as the foundations for physical
laws. They also anticipated modern concepts of creation from singularities,
and the idea that the universe itself could conceivably dissolve back into
such a singularity, at the end of time. What Blavatsky describes
as the zero point, or the Ring Pass Not is at the level of the Planckian
units, where physical manifestation becomes apparent, and beyond which
the lower mind and awareness cannot penetrate.
|
These remarkable claims of Blavatsky provide profound
insights into many enigmas and theories of modern science. In the
light of Blavatsky’s perspective, we certainly might have anticipated the
formulation of the ‘uncertainty principle’ within modern physics.
For if we trace any particle back far enough, we encounter what Blavatsky
calls a ‘ring pass not,’ where the quanta or cosmos passes from one plane
of perception into a higher dimensional realm–into an unfathomable and
infinite realm. Any particle must so ‘vanish from perception’ on
a lower plane as we attempt to penetrate its inner most nature. And
so, if we try to fully determine a particle’s position and momentum, it
will disappear into the infinite, because this is what it emerges from.
And, as Blavatsky stated, “... the state of matter corresponding to such
a point of transition must certainly possess special and not readily discoverable
properties.” From Blavatsky’s perspective, all the infinities which
emerge within the quantum field theories are quite appropriate. Recall
that there “... one indivisible and absolute Omniscience and Intelligence
in the Universe, and this thrills throughout every atom and infinitesimal
point of the whole finite Cosmos.” (p.277) The uncertainty principle is
the natural manifestation of this paradox–of zero point sources possessing
“special and not readily discoverable properties.”
Blavatsky’s profound archaic philosophy was
elaborated over twenty years before the formulation of the quantum hypotheses,
and a century before modern views of creation of the Universe from a singularity.
Further, her teachings are clearly consistent with modern concepts of
vacuum genesis, and of the void/plenum. The basic concept of zero
point sources is compatible with, and supported by, the newest theories
and models of both ‘atoms’ (or quanta) and Cosmos. The Secret Doctrine
provides an profoundly alternative perspective and interpretation of such
modern concepts and theories.
The notion of zero points is easily mistaken, as
these points are likely to be viewed as existing within the four dimensional
space-time continuum–like a spiritual spark ‘in’ the heart. In reality,
the case is quite different. Dea explains:
... space-time is created by being squeezed out of a point. ...
a space-time structure (is created) out of a single point! With this
interpretation of space-time, certain paradoxes of nonlocality which require
super-luminal speeds are no longer paradoxes. The reason is that
everything is always connected because everything is really part of the
same point. ...
It is very difficult to truly grasp the ideas presented here, because
our ordinary understanding of everything is so upside down, mistaken, and
deluded. The zero point center does not exist within the universe,
but rather, everything exists within the zero point. It is the center
which is everywhere, and yet nowhere. All external reality
is an illusory projection of such deep realities.
In The Secret Doctrine, any cosmos
is a “Son” with such a point source of unfoldment. Each Son is also
described as a “wink of the Eye of Self-Existence,” and a “spark of eternity.”
These descriptions applies equally to the existence of a macroscopic Universe
and to material quanta. However, what is then so extra profound about
Blavatsky’s teaching relative to modern science, is the idea that there
are similarly ‘quanta of consciousness’–zero point spiritual or divine
sparks, the jivatma, or Monads, established within the Heart of human beings!
Although modern science conceives of the zero point origins of quanta and
cosmos, this idea is not considered within modern consciousness studies.
However, everything is rooted within the One, the Absolute Non-Being/Being,
whether a manifested cosmos or an individual monad, or a unitary quantum–
and all living Cosmos expand and contract through such zero point sources
established within their own Hearts.
THE SONS EXPAND AND CONTRACT THROUGH THEIR OWN SELVES AND HEARTS; THEY
EMBRACE INFINITUDE. . . . EACH IN TURN A PART OF THE WEB. REFLECTING
THE “SELF-EXISTENT LORD” LIKE A MIRROR, EACH BECOMES IN TURN A WORLD.
(Stanza of Dzyan,Verses III, 11-12)
All “Sons,” Universes or individual lives, expand and contract from the
Heart. This is where the Laya Center or Zero Point is, the Life and
Consciousness principle within the material body, whether the body of a
Universe or of an individual life. The zero point Self within the
spiritual heart center is rooted into the spiritual realms of the
seven skinned Eternal Parent Space, and the Absolute Being/Non-Being.
All cosmoses expand and contract from such a point dimension, out of the
infinite into the finite, to return at the end of time to the Eternal Absolute.
The zero point, or laya center, of the Heart, extends into the spiritual
realms within while informing the material world/body without. Everything
in creation is informed in this way–within/without from zero points.
This is truly an awesome ancient mystical teaching, which bears profound
relationships to emerging scientific viewpoints. |

“To make of Science an integral whole necessitates,
indeed, the study of spiritual and psychic, as well as physical Nature.
...
Without metaphysics, real science is inadmissible.” (p. 588)
"... the rejection of these teachings may be expected, and must be
anticipated beforehand. No one styling himself a ‘scholar’in whatever department
of exact science, will be permitted to regard these teachings seriously.
They will be derided and rejected a priori in this century; but only in
this one. For in the twentieth century of our era scholars will begin to
realize that The Secret Doctrine has neither been invented or exaggerated,
but, on the contrary, simply outlined . . ." (Introduction to The Secret
Doctrine, 1888)
In 1888, Blavatsky’s explanations of the creation of
the Universe, and of physics and metaphysics, offered a viewpoint totally
incomprehensible in terms of the then fashionable scientific viewpoints
and theories. It was bound to be ignored and dismissed. As
it happens however, in this strange universe, a century of scientific advances
and the profound “new physics” and cosmology of our era, are beginning
to vindicate Blavatsky’s utterly awesome work on cosmic origins and ancient
wisdom teachings. Ancient mystical maxims and modern scientific theories
can be laid side by side to draw comparisons. When it comes to the
ultimate questions of the origins of the Cosmos, and understanding the
laws of nature, it turns out that science and mysticism are not such a
world apart–except in the interpretation of the data and the theories.
Science is beginning to arrive at the levels of reality which are spoken
of by the mystics, who penetrate the Heart and soul to the grounds of Being. |
